چکیده

The immune response of turkeys to live attenuated vaccine for avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) constructed from O78 strain was evaluated, where ninety-one-day old turkeys were vaccinated twice with 3 weeks intervals. Other thirty turkeys were kept as non-vaccinated control. Birds were challenged against homologous O78 and heterologous O1 and O2 pathogenic strains of E. coli using 107 CFU/0.2 ml/ turkey. Clinical and necropsy examinations revealed that vaccinated birds showed 96.7% protection after homologous challenge while vaccinated birds were unable to withstand the heterologous challenge. E. coli was recovered from vaccinated challenged turkeys at ratio ranged from13.3%-20% from the heart blood, liver, spleen and bone marrow on the 8th day post homologous challenge while these ratios were ranged from 53.3%-66.7% from vaccinated birds post heterologous challenge. So, the vaccination studies performed here showed that live attenuated E. coli vaccine was protective against homologous challenge with O78 strain but con not protect turkeys against heterologous challenge.

Oral vaccination of weaned rabbits against enteropathogenic Escherichia coli-like E. coli O103 infection: use of heterologous strains harboring lipopolysaccharide or adhesin of pathogenic strains.

To test the importance of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and adhesin as major antigens in vaccination against rabbit enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC)-like E. coli O103 infection, we used two nonpathogenic wild-type strains to immunize rabbits at weaning. One of these strains (C127) harbors the O103 LPS but does not express the 32,000-molecular-weight adhesin that characterizes the highly path...

Structure Evaluation of IroN for Designing a Vaccine against Escherichia Coli, an In Silico Approach

Introduction: Some strains of Escherichia Coli, including intestinal pathogenic strains, commensal strains, and extra intestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC) have a significant impact on human health status. A standard vaccine designed based on conserved epitopes can stimulate a protective immune response against these pathogens. Additionally, enhanced expression at the infection site as a pathog...

Immune responses associated with homologous protection conferred by commercial vaccines for control of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli in turkeys

Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) infections are a serious impediment to sustainable poultry production worldwide. Licensed vaccines are available, but the immunological basis of protection is ill-defined and a need exists to extend cross-serotype efficacy. Here, we analysed innate and adaptive responses induced by commercial vaccines in turkeys. Both a live-attenuated APEC O78 ΔaroA vac...

Successful selection of cross-protective vaccine candidates for Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale infection.

Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale is a bacterial pathogen known for causing respiratory disease in poultry. In this study, we demonstrate for the first time that cross-protective immunity against different O. rhinotracheale serotypes can be induced by live vaccination. Sera from these live-vaccinated and cross-protected birds were used to identify new vaccine targets by screening an O. rhinotrach...

Immunogenicity of a Fusion Protein Comprising Coli Surface Antigen 3 and Labile B Subunit of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli

Background: Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) strains are the major causes of diarrheal disease in humans and animals. Colonization factors and enterotoxins are the major virulence factors in ETEC pathogenesis. For the broad-spectrum protection against ETEC, one could focus on colonization factors and non-toxic heat labile as a vaccine candidate. Methods: A fusion protein is composed of a...
